Tee-eye-gee-gee-er

Living in the limelight is never easy. Especially when you have such burdens to bear. Burdens that you’re unable or unwilling to share with the people who define your very existence. Burdens that weigh on your shoulders each and every waking hour, until you eventually fall over from the sheer exhaustion of trying to stand tall.

It wasn’t always this way. We had a dream once, a vision of how our art will change the world. Our work was meant to create, to bridge new worlds. To be the muse for future generations, to inspire as we have been inspired by our forefathers. Not to encourage the delusion of a fluffy land of infinite dreams. And definitely not to make more money for The Company than Michael and his troop of rodents, fowls and other farm animals.

It makes me sick; watching the perversion of our work. The donkey made to look like a bumbling idiot. The unwarranted limelight on that darn pig, who squealed away our last bastion of honour in contract discussions. A life destroyed by the paparazzi’s incessant need for laying bare my forbidden love of my pooh.

My bear.

He has never said a word to me since he found out. Shut me out of his life, not even acknowledging my presence on the set. Placing my heart underneath his furry feet and crushing it into a million shards of glass.

Was it all worth it? To go through the paces and end up here, middle-aged with nobody to celebrate your special day? If existence is measured by the people who love and care for you, then I am a wisp in the dark. Whatever happened to ‘happily ever after’? Life certainly has a way of killing your dreams.
